Roatan's Pirate Festival 2018 is one of the island's yearly traditions; an exciting festival hosted by the Jonesville Patronage Association who bring to life the amazing era of piracy in the Caribbean. This community and its visitors dress up as pirates as well as decorate their vehicles as pirate ships.
El Festival del Pirata de Roatan 2018 es una de las tradiciones anuales de la isla, un festival emocionante organizado por el patronato asociado de Jonesville quien le da vida a la increíble era pirata en el Caribe. Esta comunidad y sus visitantes se visten como piratas y decoran sus vehículos como barcos piratas.

This tradition began many years ago as the community's initiative to help pave their own dirt roads and help fix whatever is needed in their community. The festival is basically a big fundraiser that also celebrates Caribbean culture, history and identity.
Esta tradición comenzó hace muchos años como una iniciativa de parte de la comunidad para pavimentar sus propias calles y ayudar a solucionar lo que se necesite en su comunidad. El festival es básicamente una recaudación de fondos que también celebra la cultura, historia e identidad del Caribe.

Islanders celebrate by parading down the streets of Jonesville in their 1600's costumes, followed by a firetruck making their way to the main event. The streets are all decorated with pirate signs on every corner, leading up to the grand area. Another common costume is mermaids, a very creative one as well.
Los isleños celebran desfilando por las calles de Jonesville en sus trajes de los 1600's, seguido de un camión de bomberos haciéndose camino hacia el evento mayor. Las calles están todas decoradas con carteles piratas en cada esquina hasta llegar al área mayor. Otro traje común es el de sirenas, uno muy creativo también.

There is a grand stage with live music and an array of the most tasteul foods, desserts and not to mention the rum.
Hay un escenario grande con música en vivo y una colección de las comidas más deliciosas, postres y sin mencionar el ron.
The festival begins from two o'clock in the afternoon up until the next morning. Islanders from all over the island visit to watch the parade and the big pirate floats that take over the streets of Jonesville.
El festival comienza desde las dos de la tarde hasta la mañana siguiente. Los isleños de todos lados de la isla visitan para presenciar el desfile y ver las grandes carrozas de piratas que se toman las calles de Jonesville.
Many take delight in eating traditional island foods served, take a few drinks and dance until the AM. Some traditional dishes included:
- Picked crab with boiled banana and rice and beans
- Tamales out of chicken, pig and meat
- Hog fry with fried plantain and chimol
- Conch soup
- Chicharron with yuca
- Chicken wings
Desserts included:
- Casava (yuca) cake - an island traditional
- Chocolate cake
- Lady golden glow cake
- Brownies
Muchos disfrutan comer las comidas isleñas que se sirven, tomar un par de tragos y bailar hasta la mañana. Algunas comidas tradicionales incluyeron:
- Cangrejo sacado con banano hervido y arroz con frijoles
- Tamales de pollo, cerdo y res
- Cerdo frito con plátano frito y chismol
- Sopa de caracol
- Chicharrón con yuca
- Alitas de pollo
Los postres incluyeron:
- Pastel de casava (yuca) - un tradicional de la isla
- Pastel de chocolate
- Pastel marmolado de vainilla y chocolate
- Brownies
