Joel Amaya is a young island man with a passion for photography and the Bay Islands biodiversity. Since 2015 he has ventured into exploring the island with the purpose of finding, photographing and identifying the different reptile, bird, mammal, insect and anphibian species in the area. He is currently working on creating a web page dedicated to show over 150 species of animals he has documented in Utila, Roatan, Santos Guardiola and Guanaja, this web page will be free, accessible to all and with educatibe purposes.
Joel Amaya es un
joven isleño apasionado por la fotografía y por la biodiversidad que habita en
Islas de la Bahía. Desde el año 2015 ha explorado la isla con la intención de
encontrar, fotografiar e identificar las diferentes especies de reptiles, aves,
mamíferos, insectos y anfibios que habitan en el departamento. Actualmente se
encuentra creando una página web en la que exhibirá de forma gratuita y con
fines educativos, las más de 150 especies de animales que ha logrado documentar
en Utila, Roatán, Santos Guardiola y Guanaja.
In Roatan there are many non-governmental organizations such as BICA and the RMP, which fight for the protection and conservation of the coral reef and ocean life. However, few is known and wildlife. In the surface of the Bay Islands there are at least 12 endemic species and many of them are declared in critical species endangerment by the IUCN. Joel's foremost objective is to protect these species before it is too late for them.
En Roatán existen
varias organizaciones no gubernamentales como BICA y el RMP, las cuales luchan
por la protección y conservación del arrecife y la vida marina. Sin embargo,
muy poco se hace por la vida silvestre. En la superficie de
Islas de la bahía tenemos al menos 12 especies que son endémicas y muchas de
ellas están declaradas como especies en peligro crítico de extinción por la IUCN.
El objetivo principal de Joel es proteger estas especies antes de que sea demasiado
tarde.
